RUC Holds Guanghua Scholarship Presentation Ceremony

th of November, RUC held the 2016 Guanghua Scholarship presentation ceremony. Deputy Chairman of the University Council WU Fulai and Chief Executor of the Guanghua scholarship CHEN Zhenchuan attended the ceremony. Director of RUC’s Student Affairs Office SONG Dawo and almost one hundred scholarship recipients also attended the ceremony.
Deputy Chairman WU and Chief Executor CHEN first handed out the certificates to the scholarship recipients. Following, Deputy Chairman WU presented Chief Executor CHEN with a book as a token of thanks for the continued support that the Guanghua Education Endowment has given to RUC students over the years.

Deputy Chairman WU first expressed his thanks to Chief Executor CHEN on behalf of the staff and students of RUC for coming to RUC and presenting the awards, and congratulated the students on their hard work and dedication that enabled them to receive the Guanghua scholarship. He noted that RUC’s reputation as a high-level academic institution relies heavily on the dilligence of the students, which is one of the principles the scholarship aims to promote. The Guanghua Education Endowment and RUC have cooperated for over twenty years, with thousands of outstanding students from RUC receiving this scholarship to date.

Following, Chief Executor CHEN affirmed RUC’s status as an important site for the study of humanities and social sciences, and reiterated the Guanghua Education Endowment’s aim of promoting Chinese culture, saying that it will always support the education industry in China. He then played a video for the recipients, informing the students about the scholarship creator Dr YI Yanliang, where he expressed hope for the future successes of the students, affirming that they will become important contributors to society and to Chinese culture.

The ceremony was presided over by Director SONG Dawo.

During the proceedings, two former recipients – GUO Zhixing from the School of Foreign Languages and ZHANG Dongdong from the School of Marxism – took to the stage to share their experiences as recipients of the Guanghua scholarship.
GUO Zhixing’s speech was on the theme of “being thankful,” where she expressed deep gratitude for the multitude opportunities that the Guanghua Education Endowment has given over the years to RUC students, as well as extending her gratitude to all the hard work given by her parents and teachers in supporting her. She stated that receiving the scholarship is not only an honour, but also a responsibility. She called upon all recipients to continue their dedication to education, that they should become exemplary citizens and pillars of the community, and give back to all the people who have given them so much during their lives.

ZHANG Dongdong then said a few words on his experiences as a research student, thanking the university for all of the opportunities it had given him. He stated that receiving the scholarship gave him more self-confidence, inspiration, and determination to be a better citizen and serve his country.

The Guanghua scholarship was established in 1990 at RUC, in accordance with the aim of promoting Chinese culture, so as to provide funding and encouragement for RUC’s outstanding students, and has a great reputation amongst the students. To this day, the Guanghua Education Endowment has provided over 6 million RMB in scholarships to RUC students, giving out over 5800 awards so far. This year, RUC selected 203 scholarship recipients, among which there are 60 undergraduate, 110 Master’s and 33 PhD students. In the future, the Guanghua scholarship will continue to unearth RUC’s best and brightest, so as to enable and encourage their development.
