A few days ago Yunnan Province Nu River prefecture Lanping County Party Chairman MA Guoqing and delegation arrived at RUC to hold talks with representatives of the University leadership. RUC University Council Chairwoman JIN Nuo, and deputy Chairman WU Fulai met with Chairman MA, with both sides putting forth suggestions on how to further collaboration between campuses, and how best to work on the task of “targeted poverty alleviation.” During the meeting Chairwoman JIN noted that as RUC is a partner institution assisting with the task of poverty alleviation in Lanping county, it views with importance all opportunities to collaborate with Lanping county. Over the last three years both RUC and Lanping county, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Yunnan provincial Party committee, have put in place a sturdy foundation of cooperation, already making countless achievements. RUC will continue to work hard to meet its commitments by centring on Lanping county’s actual needs, and work hard to consolidate and improve the efficacy of the task of poverty alleviation. Following, Chairman MA expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of Lanping county and the county government for RUC’s concern and assistance over the years, and then briefed Chairwoman JIN and deputy Chairman WU on the progress of the Guyandu Tunnel project that has been conducted with the help of RUC. Chairman MA expressed hope that RUC would continue to press on with and expand its assistance of Lanping county by continuing to help with such projects, as well as providing assistance with basic education to improve the education level of its people, so as to facilitate Lanping’s economic and social development. Following the meeting, Chairman MA and delegation held another meeting with other leaders from RUC, which was presided over by deputy Chairman WU. During the second meeting, deputy Chairman WU noted that as a pioneer of a new standard of university developed by the Party, RUC actively meets the call to “targeted poverty alleviation” sounded by President XI through its poverty relief work in Lanping county, and it is a duty that RUC takes very seriously. Since 2013 when Lanping county was announced as an important site in need of poverty alleviation, the University has earnestly implemented the task of poverty alleviation promoted by President XI. He concluded by stating that RUC is taking great strides in addressing this most urgent of tasks, and will continue working hard for as long as Lanping county is in need. Both sides then had an incisive discussion on how best to work together on this task, especially with regards to developing basic education, policies for student recruitment, cadre training, and scientific research.
