Canada’s Simon Fraser University President Andrew Petter visits RUC

On November 7th, Canada’s Simon Fraser University (SFU) President Andrew Petter and delegation visited RUC and met with RUC President LIU Wei. Vice President Joy Johnson, Mike den Haan, Innovation Director Sarah Lubik, and Public Policy Professor Maureen Maloney, International Executive Director Shaheen Nanji, and International Dept. International Strategy Program Director Yusuf Varachia accompanied the delegation. President LIU Wei introduced the newest addition of "double first-rate" disciplines of RUC, expressing hope that both universities can develop areas for expansion and cooperation. Both universities established ties in 2012, with student and teacher exchanges, deepening their cooperation. Through these international cooperation programs, these two universities have established great rapport under their willingness to cooperate by maintaining tangible results. President Petter noted that Simon Fraser University is one of Canada’s finest comprehensive research institutes in humanities and social sciences. SFU is very open to working together with RUC and is striving to make an effort to push personnel training and provide research opportunities in innovation, enterprise, public policy, journalism and communications, environmental sciences, etc. After the meeting finished, both sides extended their framework of cooperation agreement for student and teacher exchanges. Before the meeting, the delegation toured RUC Psychology Center, with RUC International Executive Director ZHANG Xiaojing, RUC International Vice Director CHENG Xin in attendance. In the afternoon, the delegation split up to attend RUC and Simon Fraser University’s jointly organized “RUC Innovation & Education International Forum.” Simon Fraser University is Canada’s first mid-class scale comprehensive liberal arts and sciences university, that was once named on MaCLEAN magazine as Canada’s #1 top university. In Canada, it has always been in the top 10, and once received accolades as Canada’s most valuable multi-disciplinary university. The university focuses on teaching practical skills, combining extracurriculars with classroom teaching to help students become leaders in their field and participate in co-op programs to expand their scope of knowledge, and adapt them to the real world and integrate with society.
