Abstract:

Sentences in French have to follow restrictions created by centuries of language evolution, which have even become stricter with the rise of French schooling since the 19th century. This lecture will first focus on the search for the ideal sentence in the works of famous writers, and find out different types of French sentences. Then, we will seek to explain the reasons and ways in which contemporary French writers choose sentence patterns compared to their predecessors, especially ancient French writers.
