RUC Vice President Meets Delegation from Singapore Management University

Feng Shizheng, Vice President of Renmin University of China (RUC), met with a delegation from Singapore Management University (SMU) led by Provost Timothy Clark on May 22.

Mr. Clark was at RUC to attend the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Societal Impact and Global Management Alliance. His last visit took place six months ago at the RUC-SMU Global Forum.

During the meeting, Feng Shizheng provided a brief overview of RUC’s history and achievements. He highlighted that RUC is the first modern university established by the People’s Republic of China, with its origins tracing back to the founding of Shanbei Public School in 1937.

Emphasizing the long history of friendly exchanges in higher education between China and Singapore, Feng expressed hopes for continued collaboration with SMU. He envisioned that both universities could leverage cooperative platforms like the Social Impact and Global Management Alliance to address major issues of mutual concern, such as population aging, globalization and deglobalization, artificial intelligence, and data security. Feng also pointed out the potential for joint research projects through RUC’s “Qiushi Scholar” program, which could foster a network for scholar exchanges and collaborations. Additionally, he proposed to enhance student exchange through various initiatives such as long and short-term exchange programs, summer schools, and joint field studies, aiming to cultivate top innovative talents with a global perspective.

Clark highlighted SMU’s extensive experience and achievements in digital technology, artificial intelligence, software development, and big data, expressing his eagerness for deeper and broader cooperation with RUC. Clark also mentioned SMU’s recent focus on lifelong learning and its achievements in offering both degree and non-degree continuing education programs. He expressed interest in exploring joint continuing education initiatives with RUC.

The meeting was also attended by staff from SMU’s International Office and RUC staff and faculty members.
