The delegation of Renmin University of China (RUC), led by Lin Shangli, President of RUC, visited Greece, Switzerland, and Hungary to enhance academic collaborations and cultural exchanges from June 3 to 12.
On June 3, the delegation met with Sophia Papaioannou, Vice Rector of Athens University, to establish the China-Greece Civilization Exchange Center. They signed memorandums of understanding to facilitate research and student exchanges, focusing on classical studies.
The next day, the delegation visited Aristotle University and discussed creating platforms for dialogue between Chinese and Greek classical civilizations with Rector Haralambos N. Feidas and Vice Rector Georgios Tzetzis about. They also signed agreements to initiate student exchange and dual degree programs.
The delegation also met with the Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Xiao Junzheng, to discuss deeper cooperation in education and cultural exchanges.
On June 6, the delegation visited the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland to meet with Director Richard Samans and Deputy Director Lawrence Jeff Johnson. They agreed to collaborate on global talent training and research on major global issues.
On June 7, the delegation met with Audrey Leuba, Rector of the University of Geneva, and Vice Rector Stéphane Berthet. The discussions centered on enhancing academic cooperation, scientific research, and global governance training.
The delegation also visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Geneva to promote mutual understanding between Chinese and Swiss cultures. They also met with the Chinese Ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva, Chen Xu, to discuss RUC’s strategy for cultivating globally competent talent.
During the visit, Lin Shangli met with students from RUC. He encouraged students to combine theory studies with practical activities and actively participate in future global governance.
On June 9, Lin Shangli participated in a symposium on Sinology in Budapest, Hungary, where he emphasized the importance of cross-cultural research and announced plans to build a global Sinology research center.
On June 10, Lin attended the inauguration of the China-Hungary Civilization Exchange and Cooperation Research Center at Eötvös Loránd University. Agreements were signed to deepen academic collaboration and student exchange programs.
Lin als met with Lajos György Szabó, Rector of Károli Gáspár University, to discuss academic cooperation and promoting Chinese modernization theories through Belt and Road Initiative.
During their stay in Hungary, the delegation met with the Chinese Ambassador to Hungary, Gong Tao, to further educational and cultural exchanges between China and Hungary.
RUC aims to accelerate the dissemination of Chinese perspectives and enhance global academic exchanges. The visit signifies a step forward in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between China and Europe, fostering global strategic talents, and contributing to the development of international relations.
