On August 24th, nearly three thousand new undergraduate students started their first day at RUC, embarking on a new learning journey.
Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council, and Lin Shangli, President of RUC, visited the Mingde Square where new students went through their admission procedure, to learn about the progress of the welcome activities, and to meet the new students and welcome staff. Other university leaders accompanied the visit.
Leaders of the university visited each school, college and other faculties’ welcome area, where they witnessed the progress of student admission on spot and also learned about more information about the top-notch innovative talent training projects, and "Qiushi Research" education and talent training project. Besides, they extended a warm welcome to the new students and expressed gratitude to the hardworking welcome staff.
Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council, pointed out that the students will start a new journey of life with the new identity of "RUC students" and will bring new vitality to RUC. Seeing the vigorous faces of everyone, he felt the joy of "educating talents from all over China." He also said that the university has prepared a rich array of orientation activities and characteristic military training arrangements. Teachers will always pay close attention to everyone's learning and life, paving the way for everyone's growth and success. During the visit, Zhang Donggang had a friendly exchange with the new students and their parents.
Lin Shangli, President of RUC, said congratulations to the new students for officially becoming members of RUC and opening a new chapter of youth here. Lin and other faculty staff members also went to the student dormitories to visit the new undergraduate students of the School of Marxism, the Department of Psychology, the School of Sociology, and the School of Business etc, to know about the students' accommodation situation. Besides, he encouraged everyone to adapt to the role change as soon as possible, cherish the prime of youth, master solid skills, and take on the great responsibilities of the times.
In the welcome work, the university has set up service points to introduce to the new students and parents in detail through the "Student Financial Support System," "Student Reward Honor System," "Mental Health Service System," and "Growth Development Support System." They distributed a mental health resource package, provided personalized counseling services, organized "Wish Message" activities, and set up a "Green Channel" welcome area to help new students draw a map of self-growth, make psychological adjustments, and ensure "worry-free admission."
After the new students are admitted, the university will hold a grand opening ceremony to extend formal welcome to all teh freshmen here and carry out a variety of themed entrance education activities to guide new students to adapt to college life as soon as possible.
This year, RUC has set up 44 top-notch innovative talent training projects (44 in recruitment), including 13 basic discipline top-notch talent training projects, 21 dual-degree compound interdisciplinary talent training projects, 3 cross-university (national) international talent joint training projects, and 7 main-minor interdisciplinary innovative talent training projects, forming a diversified top-notch innovative talent training system characterized by basic discipline top-notch innovation and interdisciplinary integration, covering most of the disciplines including 14 "Double First-Class" disciplines, involving 27 departments (departments) and 46 majors.
The university has also established the "Qiushi Research" education and talent training project, to build a student academic training system that integrates undergraduate and postgraduate education, encourage organized student research activities, and provide development support for student academic clubs and innovative teams.
By building a large academy platform that integrates learning, scientific research, practice, and cultural functions, the university will guide students to learn independently and deeply, enhance multidimensional innovation capabilities, and encourage all students from undergraduate to doctoral to freely form student integration innovation teams. Each academy has built a comprehensive education platform, focusing on learning, and striving to promote the concept of integrated education development, scientific and technological innovation, and talent training, providing students with research interest-driven scientific research platform support, and creating a good academic ecology of autonomous learning and interactive learning.
