On July 3, 2013, the opening ceremony of RUC 2013 Summer School was held in Shaw Runrun Conference Center.President Chen Yulu，Vice President Yang Huilin and Vice President Yin Zhihong attend the ceremony. Staff from all schools, some professors teaching at the ISS and students were also present. President Chen in his speech said that since RUC hosted the international summer school in 2009 , great efforts have been made in course improvement, talents training and international promotion. As a famous university with humanities and social sciences as priority, RUC pays attention to discipline characteristic and traditional advantage. The ISS is an important measure to improve RUC’s global profile and train talents with abilities of cross cultural exchanges. He hopes that students from home and abroad can make good use this platform and have a colorful summer vacation. Associate professor Gang Jianhua from School of Finance welcomed students and teachers for ISS on behalf of RUC. He said this is the fifth summer school hosted by RUC, and with well-designed courses and excellent teachers, the summer school can offer a good opportunities for students to cultivate their international vision.  Professor Leslie Holmes from Melbourne University also spoke on behalf of the foreign teachers. He said this is the second time he taught at RUC summer school. Students were excellent and he learned a lot by talking to them. He said, with China's increasing influence in the international arena, the ISS will play a more and more important role, provide the students with a broader vision, and help students grow up. Participating into the program and teaching here is also precious experience for foreign teachers. Lianne Canarick from Cornell University, LiuYongye from Macau and Wang Shuting from RUC spoke respectively on behalf students. They expressed their expectations on ISS and hoped they can learn more, make new friends and broaden their horizon. After the opening ceremony, the RUC student art troupe performed for National orchestra, the keyboard group, a symphony orchestra and the choir expressed a sincere welcome to the teachers and students from home and abroad with excellent performances. According to statistics, this year there will be 436 students from 38 countries and regions foreign and about 3000 students of RUC participating into the ISS. 130 teachers are core lectures of the summer school (excluding 13 teachers for language training) and among them 99 are from abroad. The 2013 ISS will conclude on July 30. Altogether, there are 121 core course and 122 classes(excluding 6 Chinese language training and 12 classes, 1 Advance English with 14 classes )，including China studies, general education, frontier research and Chinese culture gateway. The School will also organize exchange activities and social field practice.
