President Chen visits Korean universities to promote exchange programs

At the invitation of South Korea, president ChenYulu paid a visit to Seoul National University, Korea University and Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies and other education institutions during September 22 to 25, aiming to deepen exchanges and cooperation. In the morning of 23rd, the delegation visited Seoul National University, and were received by President OH Yeon-Cheon. President Chen introduced RUC’s recent development and offered proposals such as to further expand the student exchange programs between two universities, to set up a multidisciplinary and mutual exchanges and cooperation platform for east Asian studies, and to jointly hold international conferences, etc. President OH expressed his support and hoped to strengthen cooperation based on the current progress. He wished to renew relevant agreements with RUC in order to expand cooperation in scientific research and staff exchanges.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Korea University and were warmly received by Presiden Byoung-Chul Kim. Both parties reached agreements on key issues, such as the construction and operation of International Cultural Exchange Center in RUC. Both sides agreed that the two universities should fully take the advantage of the center to hold a series academic conferences, making it an important academic exchange center in Beijing for Chinese and South Korean scholars. In terms of student exchanges, President Chen proposed to increase the students number based on the current number of 20 each year. Given the high prices and the cost of living in South Korea, he reached agreement with President Kim to set up scholarship for outstanding students and so on, The two sides also exchanged views on online course, online education, and other hot issues
Later, the delegation had a discussion with RUC students studying in Korean University. President Chen exchanged opinions with them regarding the courses, subject development, teaching evaluation, English teaching, student management of Korea University, and other specific issues. He kindly urged the students to pay attention to personal safety matters, physical exercise, and to make full use of the valuable learning opportunities abroad, and take the excellent factors of Korea University back to RUC.
On 24th, President Chen attended an international academic conference, hosted by Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies- "China's Economy Under the Leadership of Xi Jinping Government - Challenges and Outlook", and made a keynote speech on "China's monetary and financial situation and policy" conference.
President Chen’s speech drew great attention from all parties. During the interval, President of KFAS, Park In-cook, invited President Chen, former vice President of world bank, and Lin Yifu, professor at Beijing University for a closed-door talk. After the meeting, about 15 South Korean media made a serial report on President Chen. Chen also offered professional answers to questions related to China’s economic development, financial situation and the development of higher education reform
During the meeting, Chen and Park specifically discussed issues like deepening bilateral exchanges and cooperation. Park said KFAS will increase financial support for RUC’s international conference on Confucianism, and initiated to establish special funds for China, Japan and South Korean issues. President Chen expressed his appreciation and gratitude, on behalf of the university and offered his opinions on further development model and direction.
In the morning of 25th, the delegation visited the headquarter of Agricultural Cooperative College and its affiliated units, to study the relationship of South Korean urbanization, agricultural modernization and new rural construction, and to deepen the cooperation of RUC and the organization.
