The 12th RUC Teacher-Student Badminton Group Competition

The 12th RUC Teacher-Student Badminton Group Competition was held in the Century Hall from May 9-11, a game RUC men traditionally call “Farewell-White-Feather.” More than 500 athletes from 30 departments took part in the competition.
Delegations of alumni from the classes of 1983, 1987 and 1988 also participated. The competition was co-sponsored by the School Union, Sports Department and Student Affairs Department, undertaken by RUC Badminton Association.
On the afternoon of May 9, Zhang Jianming, Executive Vice Chairman of the University Council, announced the opening of the competition. He said, “Farewell-White-Feather is a traditional event in RUC. Every year, we observe the game draw the teachers and the students closer.”
Badminton has been a very important part of University Fitness Program, Vice Chairman Zhang said. He expressed his hope that teachers, students and alumni all had a wonderful time during the game.
Liu Ronghua, alumni representative from the class of 1987, delivered a speech on the opening ceremony. She felt so glad to come back to alma mater, she said, and gave best wishes to RUC on behalf of all alumni.
After the ceremony, principals from the School Union, Sports Department and Student Affairs Department struck the first pitch for the game.
All teams were divided into two groups, Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 included 17 teams, while level 2 included 22 teams. The competitions consisted of group phase, relegation battle and knockout match.
After fierce competitions in hundreds of games and more than five hundred individual events, the School of Public Administration won the championship for Level 1. The Law School won the runner-up, and the faculty delegation was honored with third place at level 1.
The team of class 1988 won the Level 2 championship, a delegation of school administrators got the runner-up, and Team 2 from the School of Public Administration took third place.
Vice President Zha Xianyou attended the closing ceremony and awarded the championships. Professor Yang Nianqun from School of History and Professor He Jiahong from the Law School gave trophies and medals to the runners-up and the third place winners, respectively.
On the afternoon of May 11 the Farewell-White-Feather Badminton Group Competition lowered its curtain with cheers echoing in the hall.
