Ninth RUC Model United Nation opened

The ninth ‘RUC Model United Nation’ (RUCMUN) opened in No. 1 Lecture Hall, Run Run Shaw Conference Center on the evening of May 8. The meeting is themed on ‘Dreams and Pain: Let’s Be Hand In Hand’. More than 200 delegates from 44 universities attended the opening ceremony.
President Chen Yulu said that China, as a civilized ancient country which has made important contributions to human development, is walking toward the world with an open mind. By participating in international organizations such as the Model United Nation (MUN), he said, China is assuming greater international responsibility.
President Chen said that to maintain a nation’s interest and solve worldwide problems, people needed to focus not only on the nation itself, but also on the entire world. People need to learn to compromise and insist, to communicate and cooperate. He encouraged the delegates to understand cultural diversity, to broaden their horizons, and to promote multi-cultural communication skills, doing their best to contribute to the peace and development of the world.
Lu Shumin, President, United Nations Association of the People's Republic of China, made a speech in English. He spoke highly of RUC’s status in Humanities and Social Sciences, and praised RUC’s outstanding contribution to cultivating international talents. He said that RUCMUN provided a great learning platform for students who wanted to devote themselves to the world governance. President Lu encouraged delegates to grab valuable opportunities to train themselves, getting prepared to assume the responsibility of their age.
Weng Xiang, Vice Chief Editor of The China Youth Daily, claimed that promoting the international influence of China requires considerable international talents. RUCMUN provides a great platform for students to broaden their horizon and improve their international understanding, Weng said.
Prof. Yan Jin, Vice Director, School of International Studies, emphasized the important role that MUN has played in international affairs. She claimed that RUCMUN provided a valuable opportunity for students to understand the MUN and pay attention to international affairs. He hoped that delegates could gain a deeper understanding of MUN and improve their multi-cultural communication skills.
Dr. Yang Baorong, Vice Researcher, The Institute Of West Asian and African Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Science, encouraged students to take part in the MUN meeting.
In conclusion, Li Chenyang, General Secretary of RUCMUN, School of International Studies, made a speech on behalf of the RUCMUN Association.
