The 10th International Conference on Social Security Held in Beijing

RENMIN UNIVERSITY, 22 Sep. 2014 (Via RUC English News): Hosted by China Social Security 30 Forum, Korean Association of Social Policy and the southeast division of Japan Association of Social Policy, and organized by China Social Security Research Center at Renmin University of China (RUC), the 10
th International Conference on Social Security was held in Beijing recently. More than 300 social security specialists, scholars and delegates from over 120 universities, colleges and institutions of over 10 countries assembled to discuss the opportunities and challenges of social security.

The president of RUC Chen Yulu, the vice president of Chinese Academy of Social Science Cai fang, and the director of China Health Insurance Research Association Wang Dongjin were present at the conference and delivered speeches. As the chairman of Conference Organizing Committee, prof. Zheng Gongcheng from RUC, hosted the opening session and made a keynote speech, followed by prof. Noguchin Sadahisa from Nihon Fukushi University, Ku In-hoe, the president of Korean Association of Social Policy, and Zheng Bingwen, the director of Institute of American Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Science who made their keynote reports. The conference was divided into 13 sub-forums on various topics, such as endowment insurance,medicare, social aid, social welfare, comparison on international endowment insurances, social security coverage, nursing care, synthesis, youth, education and Chinese situation. 130 specialists and scholars expressed their academic views and analysis on policies of different topics. Besides, dialogues between Chinese and European scholars, and round table talks among the youths from China, Japan and Korea were held during the conference.
President ChenYulu remarked that the overall coverage of China’s social security has been basically realized through the decade effort made by the former administration. In the pursuing years, one of the most important strategic aims of overall and deep reformation is to establish a fairer and more sustainable social security system. In order to achieve the goal, we should respect experiences in Chinese history and in reality and learn from advanced countries, especially experiences of Japan and Korea who share cultural traditions with China.

International Conference on Social Security is an academic conference set up through the joint effort of famous Social Security scholars in 2004, namely prof. Zheng Gongcheng from Renmin University of China, prof. Takegawa Shogo from Tokyo University, and Kim Yeon-Myung from Chung-Ang University. After initiated in RUC, and held in turn in China, Japan and Korea for nine sessions, the 10
th International Conference on Social Security is hosted again in Renmin University of China where the first conference was held. With each session appealing to hundreds of social security scholars from different countries, the conference has become a great international academic event on social security with profound influence.
