Leipzig University is one of seven German universities with which RUC has established standing academic partnerships. Looking back on a history of over 600 years, it is one of the oldest universities in the world; among its alumni are Goethe and Nietsche, as well as a number of Nobel laureates and the current German chancellor, Angela Merkel. On December 11^th, Leipzig University’s current president, Beate Schücking, came to meet RUC’s new president, LIU Wei, to hold talks on how to extend and strengthen collaboration between the two institutions; both schools serve as national symbols of higher learning in their respective countries. During their meeting, LIU and Schücking reviewed the history of the RUC-Leipzig University academic partnership, during which time the two schools jointly established the Confucius Institute at the University of Leipzig.
