Leipzig University is one of seven German universities with which RUC has established standing academic partnerships. Looking back on a history of over 600 years, it is one of the oldest universities in the world; among its alumni are Goethe and Nietsche, as well as a number of Nobel laureates and the current German chancellor, Angela Merkel.

On December 11
th, Leipzig University’s current president, Beate Schücking, came to meet RUC’s new president, LIU Wei, to hold talks on how to extend and strengthen collaboration between the two institutions; both schools serve as national symbols of higher learning in their respective countries.

During their meeting, LIU and Schücking reviewed the history of the RUC-Leipzig University academic partnership, during which time the two schools jointly established the Confucius Institute at the University of Leipzig.
