2016.04.11
On April 5th, while attending an academic conference in Boston, RUC’s Vice President for International Affairs, Professor YI Zhihong, paid a visit to the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMB). UMB’s Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Winston Langley, received Professor YI; Schuyler Korban, Vice Provost and Director of UMB’s Office of Global Programs, and directors of UMB’s Confucius Institute, SUN Baifeng and FU Chunmei, also attended the meeting.
Vice Provost Langley offered a cordial welcome to Professor YI, expressing deep appreciation for the work of UMB’s Confucius Institute and cooperation between the two universities. The two sides discussed plans for the future development of the institute as well as exploring further opportunities for academic exchanges. Concretely, the upcoming celebration for the institute’s ten-year anniversary was discussed. Both sides hope to strengthen their academic partnership and explore opportunities for collaboration, enabling the institute to continue serving as a platform for cross-cultural “mutual learning” in its curricular design as well as its promotion of faculty and student exchanges. Agreements to this effect were renewed during the meeting.

UMB’s Confucius Institute was established in 2006 in partnership with Renmin University and its affiliated High School. Since 2009, RUC and UMB have had an ongoing student exchange program, with UMB's Confucius Institute serving as intermediary.
