In the past few days, the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) Centre for Scientific and Technological Development formally announced the 2016 “High-Level Academic Institution Academic Research Outstanding Achievement Awards (Science and Technology).” The application for the prize, for the project titled “Database Network Analysis Acceleration Technology and Transformational Innovations and Achievements in Multiple Data Type Support” was put together by DU Xiaoyong, CHEN Hong, ZHANG Xiao, ZHANG Yansong, LI Cuiping, LU Jiaheng and WANG Shan from the School of Information, and the project successfully took out the first prize from the Ministry of Education. “Database Network Analysis Acceleration Technology and Transformational Innovations and Achievements in Multiple Data Type Support” is in part the achievement of the applicant’s research project beginning in 2009 with the support of the national “State High-Tech Development Plan” (863 programme) and the “National Core High-Tech Plan.” Its main points of technological innovation are: first, it utilises innovative research to develop many kinds of OLAP acceleration techniques in light of the many-tiered requirements for network analysis of mass data, from disk scanning, RAM, processor speed, and system structure. Second, it preforms research into new techniques for seamless integration of relational data and XML data, and realises the unified management of relational data and semi-structured/non structured data by using a platform for managing relational data. There were 13 patents applied for (from which 7 licences were obtained), as well as being granted one software copyright. The MOE’s Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement is conferred on those people or organisations who make a creative contribution to the field through promoting scientific and technological achievements, and by completing important scientific and technological projects. According to our sources, this is the first time that RUC has received first prize for this programme.
